Build a Niche Website

Build a Niche Website

Why build a niche website? The Internet is vast and if you are looking for an online home business then this is a genuine possibility. In fact, if you have found this site, you have found one of my niche websites!

I absolutely love this concept and am an example of what a normal work at home mum can achieve online.

If you have a business that you want to promote online, then building a niche website is also a very good way of doing so.

However you need to understand the best way of doing your niche website research and building your niche website in order to achieve real success.

Why Build a Niche Website?

As I’ve already pointed out the Internet is vast, in fact there is so much information out there that it is sometimes hard to find exactly what you are looking for. I’m sure you have been there.... you do a search in Google or similar and up pops a page of websites with the words that you searched for but none of them are really what you are looking for.

Some of this is down to the way we search for information. We have to be very specific about what we are looking for. Searching for “Kitchens” will bring up thousands of searches and the first page will be very general. If we search for “kitchen cabinet replacement doors” we narrow down both the number of websites we find at the same time as increasing the chances of finding what we are looking for.

People are looking for highly targeted information so to build a niche website you need target a highly specific market. This means that you are much more likely to have your information found and that the information you provide will be highly relevant to the people that find it.

There are two main reasons for building a niche website:

1) As an online business which generates a long term residual income to replace or supplement your income even through retirement.

If you build your niche website in the correct way, you can generate a great deal of highly specific traffic and promote products that solve your readers’ problems or generate quite a significant income through advertising.

2) To drive traffic to another website or offline business.

Making sure your business gets found online is important in this day and age. You can build a niche website around an existing business and this method works very well to drive traffic to your existing business or website. This is something that I am doing for my husband’s kitchen business. Whilst he doesn’t need any fitting business as he is so busy, he has an online shop selling kitchen cabinets and kitchen cabinet replacement doors which we need to drive traffic to so I am building an information website for this purpose. Additionally it will mean that he can use his considerable knowledge and expertise in this area to generate an additional income stream which will continue into our retirement. It is still in its early days but you can see the first few pages here: kitchen cabinets and doors made easy

In summary, the easiest way to explain this is that when you want a speciality product you are much more likely to find it in a speciality store. Having a niche website is a little like having a speciality store. All of your visitors are highly targeted and are usually looking for something very specific which they know they won’t find anywhere else. The difference with having a speciality store online is that you can easily reach a worldwide audience, something that a shop in the high street can’t do.

Niche Website Research

If you do a search on Google or similar for information on how to build a niche website, you will find that there is a lot of information on the Internet about this topic. A lot of the information on the first page of your search engine will be blatant advertising, others will be get rich quick schemes telling you that you can build a niche website in 27 minutes or similar.

Yes, you can use a blog to build a niche website and you can buy a kit that will generate a website a week for the next xx years. Some people make good money from advertising such products and others make good money by building a series of mini sites all bringing in a few pounds or dollars each a week.

In my opinion these options are for the more technically savvy internet entrepreneurs. It takes a lot to research niches and doing it over and over again for each mini site you are building is not for everyone.

There are hundreds of tools out there that will help you with your niche website research. Some are free and others are paid. The key thing however is to be able to interpret the information that this research brings you. That is the hard part for the beginning internet entrepreneur – the everyday person like you and me.

Building a niche website is a fantastic automated online home business but it needs more than just the research. It is a steep learning curve and if you are just starting out with this as a possibility you are more likely to succeed if you have a tried and tested model which is working for the other people in your situation and that preferably has a money back guarantee.

The model that I prefer is one larger niche website which is an information site. As I said earlier, people are looking to be educated by the internet. They are looking not only for solutions but information about the specific issue they are searching for. It is all very well building a small niche website with a little bit of information but if you really want to have a successful niche site, building one that over delivers will position you as an expert in your field and bring you repeat visitors and repeat trade.

How to Build a Niche Website

Once you understand why you might want to build one, the next question is usually “How do you build a niche website?”

I’m not going to go into details of how to build niche websites using WordPress here as I personally do not believe it is as successful or as easy to follow for the complete beginner as the model that I use.

Normal people search the internet looking for information, not adverts. In order to understand why building a niche website is a possibility to earn money online you need to understand the way people use the internet.

Normally when we turn to the Internet, we have problem that we are looking for a solution to. We are not looking for adverts but information. We want to find information about the problem we are looking to solve and more information about how to go about solving it. We want to be educated not sold to.

In the model I use, they teach you to build a niche website that fit what people are looking for. We give them what they want. Not fake sites with one page full of adverts. Not brief information that doesn’t answer our questions but a genuine site sharing our knowledge and expertise on a subject.

In this model, you write about something that you are passionate and knowledgeable about. This might be around an existing business which makes the topic for that very easy.

However, to have a successful online home business you need to love what you are doing. Writing about something you are passionate about doesn’t feel like work and will be something that you are already knowledgeable about. Don’t worry if you are thinking that there is nothing that you could build a niche website around. The process I use guides you every step of the way.

You can take a look at the complete process and the video action guides that are available as tools by clicking on the picture of the tortoise below (actually I think it is a turtle but SBI uses the tortoise as its emblem:

Build a Niche Website This really is a tried and tested method and people I know have written sites about vegetable gardening, juggling, make up, home education, healthy snacks... the list goes on. You could even write about an illness if you wanted – in fact an illness that I have become acquainted with very recently will be the topic of my next website!

Once you have done your research, you then begin writing about each strand that you have identified within your research. You build a page for each keyword topic and write it carefully to make it search engine and human friendly and keep adding pages in your own time.

Eventually you will have a huge information site that answers people’s questions and is a fantastic resource for people searching on that niche topic. You can monetise it by recommending products, books, services or anything else that you can think of that actually work and solve people’s problems. This isn’t selling, it is matching people’s needs to a product that will help and it is a great way of doing business. Additionally, advertising can bring in a significant income as your website grows. What’s more, once you have done the work you don’t have to do it again. You get paid for the work you have done over and over again – all you need to do is keep the site ticking over and it will continue to grow and generate an income for you.
